Muskogee Fire Department Driver Eddie Edwards talks about fireworks safety Thursday with Muskogee’s 4-H youth. Edwards asked a youth how he could be an effective firefighter if he had injured his eyes or blown a finger off with a firecracker. Afterward, Fire Marshal Ray Bob Daniels gave a brief seminar on fireworks safety. He recommended that Independence Day celebrators know their fireworks, avoid mixing alcohol and shooting fireworks, light one device at a time, and keep a bucket of water on hand. He also said that a responsible adult should supervise children and their fireworks and that fireworks users wear safety glasses, set them off in an outdoor clearing, and never relight “dud” fireworks.
