CATHY SPAULDING/Muskogee Phoenix
Work crews level an area of Civitan Park on Wednesday as they prepare a space for a new splash pad near the existing playground. Civitan Park’s playground will be closed while crews install a splash pad, restrooms, additional parking and sidewalks. Muskogee Parks and Recreation Director Mark Wilkerson said work should be completed in late summer. Wilkerson apologized for the project’s scheduling, which was dependent upon the availability of grant funds. He said Civitan improvements were funded by a $500,000 grant, half of which was awarded by the City of Muskogee Foundation and the remainder by the Land and Water Conservation Fund, a federal assistance program. People still may use the park’s trails, community garden and disc golf course, Wilkerson said.
