Muskogee Fire Department firefighters extinguish a fire reported Tuesday morning at 1625 Dayton St. Assistant Fire Chief John Tipton said the fire started when a wood stove flue pipe in the wall overheated and ignited materials in the space between the interior and exterior walls. He said an occupant of the home used a hose to douse the flames before firefighters arrived. Most of the damage, Tipton said, occurred as a result of having to tear out the wall to make sure the fire was extinguished.
